
Hassan: The organs of a brain dead school girl killed in a road accident have been successfully removed by a team of doctors at the HIMS for donation with the consent of her parents.
Chandana hailing from Halepalya village of Tipaturu taluk who was on her way to school on June 23 was seriously injured after her bicycle was hit by a lorry. The successful operation was announced at a news conference by the director of the hospital. He praised the Vasantakumar couple for consenting to donate the organs of their eldest daughter.
The surgery was performed on June 27 over a period of three hours from 3.30 pm. The director said Dr. Raje Gowda of Bangalore and the doctors from different departments of our hospital successfully performed surgery. HIMS is the first among the government hospitals of the state to achieve this feat, he said.
Through this, Chandana’s parents have become a role model for others. Dr. Hanumanthappa, the head of the Aravalik Department, said that if others came forward to donate their body organs, many lives could be saved.
