Hassan: Final-year agriculture students of Krishi Mahavidyalaya at Karekere, Mylanahalli, Hassan, participated in an introductory programme as part of a rural agriculture experience camp on 21 August, 2024. Village leaders began the programme by lighting a lamp.  In this programme, the students explained the purpose of the camp through a short play and made the villagers aware of the upcoming programmes and other issues in the village.  All the leaders and villagers participated in the event near the temple premises of the town.

Ramesh, a village leader, presided over the programme. He gave a brief description of the camp to the villagers through a speech. Along with him, village heads Paramesh, Manjegaudru, Suresh, Ravi, Krishnanegaudru, Rangegaudru, and Chandra were seated on the dais. Villagers, who participated in this programme in large numbers, promised to support similar upcoming programmes. Such events help play an important role in building a rapport between students and villagers.

Tree Campaign

A few days ago, the students launched “A tree campaign in the name of Mother” at H. Mylanalli, Dudda Hobli, Hassan Taluk. Dr. Muniswamy Gowda, Dean of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), launched the programme by planting saplings.

Further, he said the basic objective of the campaign was to plant trees and prevent land degradation, amid today’s globalized world, rapid urbanization and industrialization. He said millions of trees were being destroyed due to highways and other projects. By planting trees, drought, soil erosion and desertification can be prevented. Along with him, professors of the university, Dr. Shankara M.H., Dr Pramoda G, Dr. Sadasivana Gowda, Dr. Rekha B, Agriculture students, villagers and government schoolchildren joined hands to make the programme a success.
