Hassan athlete shortlisted for global competition makes appeal for help

Hassan: Santosh Shetty, son of Shekhara Shetty, is an international powerlifting athlete, who lives in  Hemavatinagar, 2nd Main, 4th Cross, Hassan.

He has been selected to represent India at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Competition and is making a request for financial support to achieve certain milestones. In a conversation with Hassan Today, he said, “I have been selected to represent India for the Commonwealth Powerlifting competition.  The Commonwealth Competition will be held at Sun City, South Africa from October 4, 2024 to October 13, 2024 and the estimated prize money for the Competition will be Rs. 1,60,000.  I request the people to help me with my expenses, if possible.  I am living in Hassan since 15 years and working in the private sector. I have been actively participating in the sport of powerlifting at the state, national and international levels for about four years, winning many awards, and working as the co-secretary of the Hassan Weightlifting Association. I also give powerlifting training to children. 

Salient details of the awards are as follows:

1. For the first time, an athlete from Hassan district won a silver medal in the 74 kg category (M.1) in the Asian Power Championship.
2. Shetty competed five times at the national level and won medals four times (silver and bronze).
3. He also competed five times at the state level and won four gold and one silver medal.

His appeal is that since he is working to bring glory to the district, state and nation, financial support would be most welcome.
