

Hassan: Teacher’s Day is celebrated on September 5 every year in India in memory of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and a renowned educationist, Dr. AJ Krishnaiah, Principal of Malnad Engineering College said in a function on the occasion at the institution on Thursday.
He said the role of teachers in the field of education is integral as it creates awareness about the value of education and culture in our young generation and society. It is the responsibility of the teacher to make the students walk, he said, wishing everyone good luck on this day.
“Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan brought in a lot of changes in the field of education. Education is governed by the planet Jupiter, which played out brilliantly in his life,” he said.
Sivakumar, Superintendent of the Student Welfare Department of the college, said that Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, to Sarvapalli Veera Swamy and Mother Seethamma.
“Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, as Professor of Philosophy, University of Mysore, served in the field of education, and his discipline brought in a new dimension to the culture of education in post-Independent India. It is our duty to respect teachers and carry their ideals forward,” he said.
In the programme, student welfare officer and professor Dr. H. S. Narasimhan, heads of all departments of the college, professors, employees and students participated.

Meanwhile, across the district
In a separate event, the teachers of nine private schools of the district were felicitated in an award ceremony held on Thursday at the city’s Hassanamba Kalakshetra on behalf of the district administration, zilla panchayat, School Education and Literacy Department and the Association of Private Unaided Schools Management Boards.
The teachers of the private unaided schools of the district were awarded the District Best Teacher/Teacher Award for the year 2024-25.
Simhasini of Kiran Convent, Arakalagud, Alur Taluk, M.K.S. Gayatri of Lions Vidyaniketan School, Araseikere, Yogeesh of Aravinda English Medium School, Deepa of United Academy School, Belur, Channarayapatna, Meenakshi of Vivekananda International School, Hassan Taluk, Nandisha K. S. of Vijaya School, Kirana of Adichuchanagiri School, Holenaraseepura, Lata T.D. of Sanskar Public School Sakleshpur Taluk, and Manjula of Blossom School were felicitated.
Speaking at the event, the president of the Union of Private Unaided Schools, B.E. Sivaramegowda, said “We hope your contribution will continue to be greater in the field of education and you will serve as the guardians of the future of students. With the support of the Federation of Management Boards of Private Unaided Schools, the Hassan District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of School Education and Literacy have initiated good work over the last five years. I thank the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of School Education and Literacy for recognizing the services of private school teachers and encouraging them,” he said.
