Hassan: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the Yettinahole drinking water supply project in Hassan district on Friday, along with fellow Congressmen DK Shivakumar (Deputy Chief Minister), Veerappa Moily (Former Chief Minister), KN Rajanna (District in charge Minister) and Shreyas Patel (Hassan MP).
On the occasion, he promised that the government will fill all the lakes under the Yettinahole project no matter how much is to be spent, to ensure water is provided.
He spoke after inaugurating the first phase of the Yettinahole project at Hebbanahalli in Sakleshpur taluk.
“This is a great project that will provide water to seven districts. The project started in Kolar, Chikkaballapur and then joined Tumkur and Hassan. Arsikere MLA Sivalinge Gowda has asked the government to add Arsikere also to the beneficiary list,” he said.
“There was a problem of drinking water in drought-prone areas. Let’s help serve all these districts together,” he said.
Congress leaders alleged nothing was done to alleviate the water crisis during the BJP’s time. Nothing was spent on this project for four years. If it was done, this project would have solved the problems of the people.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said through this project, we will do what has to be done to give drinking water to the districts. “The poor, farmers, Dalits, minorities, and backward people of this country should not suffer economically and socially. We will do whatever we have to for it. This is our commitment,” he added.
Recently, a pilot test of Yettinahole irrigation was conducted. This project will benefit 75 lakh people of seven districts including Tumkur, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, and a small part of Ramanagara as well.
At present, 550 cusecs of water is being pumped. Six times this water will be pumped and drained into the ocean.
