In Shravanabelagola, a great CSR initiative by seer and Volvo Group

Shravanabelagola: Healthcare is of utmost importance for everyone, and in pursuit of that aim, the Sri Digambara Jain Maha Sansthan Math, Shravanabelagola, has worked along with a major corporate group to bring clean potable water to pilgrims visiting the shrine.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) division of the Volvo Group, on behalf of the Sri Digambara Jain Maha Sansthan Math, on Tuesday unveiled a clean drinking water unit in the premises of the Vidyananda Nilayam in the town.

While inaugurating the newly constructed unit, an official from the group said that recently, people had been suffering from many diseases due to water contaminated by fluoride, and hence this drinking water unit was a great asset to the society.

“It was the dream of Karmayogi Swastishri Charukirthi Bhattarak Swamiji to provide clean drinking water to the people. Mahaswamiji, who is now the presiding officer of the Sri Math, has embodied this spirit,” he added.

Swamiji is also credited with upgrading the local hospital from a mere five-bed facility in 2006 to a 30-bed hospital. The previous President of the Math, who had great love for children, started the Baahubali Children’s Hospital in view of the health of rural children.

“It was special that this facility was inaugurated by then President of India APJ Abdul Kalam.  In pursuit of social welfare measures, health camps for women and children were arranged under the Jana Kalyana Yojana in view of the health of the people in rural areas and they were given free treatment,” he said.

The current head of the Math has committed himself to the comprehensive development of Shravanabelagola and has undertaken several development works to that effect Of them, priority is being given to health and education.
