A meeting on law and order in Hassan district under way.
Hassan: Parliamentarian Shreyas M. Patel, while chairing a meeting on law and order in the district on Monday, observed that drugs were being transported secretly through trains in the district, and wondered what the Railway Police was doing when information on this was floating all around town.
Expressed intense displeasure with the functioning of the Railway Police, he observed, “Drugs are being supplied to Hassan district through trains. Youngsters are getting drugs in villages and are being spoiled by this menace. Is the police sleeping?”
He directed the Railway Police to work together with the district police to combat the drug menace. “Arrest the drug peddlers straightaway. Do not succumb to any pressure on this front,” he told them.
He also observed that apart from drug trade, “matka” trade was also rampant in Hassan.
“The SP has been instructed to ensure a stop to all this. Today, unemployment is a major problem in the country and the young are on a fragile footing. We cannot allow the youth to waste away,” he said.
