Hassan MP chairs meet to monitor progress of projects in district

Hassan MP Shreyas Patel chairing a meeting on projects in the district.

Hassan: Member of the Lok Sabha, Shreyas M.  Patel, on Monday presided over the first quarter of the district development coordination and stewardship committee meeting.

During the meeting, he was informed about the progress of various works undertaken by various departments and specifically warned the health department to keep hospitals well-equipped and in good condition.

“In case of accidents or emergencies, patients should be admitted to the government district hospital first. If they are diverted from the government taluk hospital to private hospitals, action will be taken against staff,” he said.

He also said that it had been noticed that drugs were being supplied through trains in the district, and directed the police department to keep a tab on such movements.

Patrolling personnel must be on vigil to prevent any kind of drug supply and immoral activities, he said, adding that there were too many cases of rash use of motorcycles and wheeling by minors.

Patel also directed the Education department to take all necessary measures to ensure buildings of schools and colleges are kept in good condition, and ordered a status report to be submitted to the government on the current infrastructural situation.

He also stressed that good food and clean drinking water for schoolchildren was non-negotiable.

Karnataka Housing Board president KM Shivalingegowda said that the farmers’ crop insurance benefit under the Fasal Bhima scheme was not reaching eligible farmers who had lost crops, and requested that officials of the Agriculture department conduct house visits and submit a report to the government.

He also said that in the schools, colleges and hostels under the Social Welfare department, all kinds of basic facilities for children should be provided. He also directed the Horticulture department to provide adequate tools for farmers, and if additional equipment was needed, they should bring it to his attention.

Patel also expressed his displeasure against the contractor of the Hassan-Mangalore National Highway project, saying work has not been completed even though the stipulated period has elapsed.

“Everyone knows about the hill collapse near Doddappalu near Sakleshpur, but the contractor has not woken up yet,” he observed.

“Due to the railway flyover currently under construction near Hangarahalli in Holenarsipur taluk, motorists are facing a lot of trouble.  Work should be completed as soon as possible, and the service road should be repaired immediately for vehicular traffic to flow,” he ordered.

Later, District Collector C. Satyabhama observed that National Highway 75 was the main road that connected Bengaluru, Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts.

“This road is important for medical services, and therefore, work on the project should be taken up seriously and completed at the earliest. Otherwise, a case will be filed against the contractor,” she warned.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer BR Purnima, SP Mohammad Sujitha, Zilla Panchayat Planning Officer Parappaswamy, Deputy Secretary Chandrasekhar were present in the meeting.
