Demand for early implementation of internal reservation

Dalit activists addressing the media in Hassan on Wednesday.

Hassan: Madiga Dandora Reservation Struggle Committee President H. Shankarraju has said that a massive protest will be held in front of the DC’s office on October 16 demanding implementation of internal reservation policy as soon as possible.

Speaking to reporters in the city on Wednesday, he said that many days have passed since the Supreme Court ordered that state governments be given independent powers to enforce internal reservation, but Karnataka has not yet taken steps to implement it. “As a result of the struggle that has been going on for the last 30 years, the Supreme Court has finally come forward to provide us with justice. However, while Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and other including Karnataka have promised to implement the order soon, so far nothing has been done,” he said.
“Many Dalit organizations have participated in this struggle and if the government does not respond positively, Vidhana Soudha will be gheraoed in the coming days,” he warned. He appealed to all Dalit organizations to join the protest and work in unison to ensure their collective welfare.

Madiga Dandora District President Venkatesh, Secretary Suresh, office-bearers Aluru Venkataiah and Lokesh were present at the news conference.
