Hassan: MLA Swaroop Prakash on Tuesday visited various parts of Hassan which were waterlogged due to heavy rains that have been pouring for the last couple of days.
Many places such as Mahalakshmi Layout, Hasanamba temple area and Uddur have been flooded, due to which residents are unable to step out. Roads are also completely flooded and connectivity disrupted at various places. In some places, due to water breaching lakes and flowing onto roads, connectivity has been cut off.
Vehicles were diverted to alternative roads to ease congestion in the city.
Reason for flooding
The main reason for this flooding and misery is the encroachment of stormwater drains owing to unethical construction patterns. MLA Prakash, who listened to the problems of the people, immediately wrote to the government and brought the matter to the attention of the district in-charge minister.
He said private layouts have done unscientific planning, which has caused this disaster.
“The matter will be brought before the Hassan Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in the coming days and steps will be taken to curb such unethical practices,” he promised.
Municipal Council President M. Chandra Gowda, Municipal Commissioner Narasimhamurthy and various department officials and staff were present during the inspection programme.
