Belur: A farmer who was going to his coffee plantation in the taluk was recently attacked by wild elephants, causing panic in the area. Nagesh, the injured, is a coffee farmer who was the victim in the attack which took place in Bikkodu village of Belur taluk. Nagesh was on his way to the plantation by motorcycle when six elephants suddenly pounced upon him. Nagesh, however, had a narrow escape from death and is now being treated at the Belur Taluk Hospital. A herd of more than 30 pachyderms have been camping around a coffee plantation in the recent past. Forest officials and staff visited the place but were witness to tremendous commotion by people in the area.

Locals are livid with the government and the forest department for not taking any action in such matters and allowing the lives of the common man to become more vulnerable as time progresses.
