Hassan: In the recent concluded bypolls to three assembly seats in Karnataka – Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur – the Congress party has emerged victorious. The Congress candidates – CP Yogeshwar (Channapatna), Yasir Ahmed (Shiggaon) and E. Annapoorna (Sandur) defeated big names such as Nikhil Kumaraswamy of the JDS, Bharat Bommai of the BJP and Bangaru Hanumantappa of the alliance, respectively.
Hassan district Congress spokesperson, Devaraje Gowda, speaking to Hassan Today said that this showed that the Congress was still a force to reckon with politically and that the schemes of the Siddaramaiah government were hugely popular with the voters.
He also said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s landmark victory in the Wayanad bypoll further showed that the people were firmly with the Congress, despite certain big names in opposition camps thinking otherwise.
The results are a clear signal to the BJP-JDS combine that the voters do not like their policies and that the Congress is a much better option, he opined.
