Hassan: The election of the Hassan District Government Employees’ Association, which was an interesting field due to intense competition, opened on Wednesday, and the results were electric: B.P. Krishna Gowda has won the polls by a landslide margin and he will be its new president.
While K.R. Hemanth of Team Krishna Gowda was elected as treasurer, M.L. Manjunath, who contested for the Rajya Parishad seat, lost, with Raju T. of the K.M. Srinivas faction winning by a margin of just one vote.
The election was held at the District Government Employees’ Association office on R.C. Road in the city from 9 am onwards.
By noon, all 74 directors had cast their votes.
Tight police presence was in place for the election as a precautionary measure.
Counting of votes began in the afternoon and out of the 74 that were cast by various directors, Krishna Gowda won by securing 42, while his rival K.M. Srinivas secured only 31.
As district treasurer, K.R. Hemanth won by securing 43 votes, while his rival S. Madhu lost by securing 31 votes.
As the Rajya Parishad member, T. Raju secured 37 votes and secured a victory. M.L. Manjunath, who contested against him, secured 36 votes. Finally, Election Officer B.A. Govindaraju announced that B.P. Krishna Gowda was elected as the new district president, K.R. Hemanth as its treasurer and Raju T. as the Rajya Parishad member.
Victory ceremony
As soon as the results were announced, the new president and his team celebrated their victory with a ceremony. Local MLA H.P. Swaroop Prakash and others congratulated the new office-bearers on the achievement.
Krishna Gowda’s brother, Baguru Manjegowda, Boovanahalli Swamygowda, district JDS spokesperson Raghu Hongere, and others were present on the occasion.
