Hassan: “Not enough can be said about Charukirti Bhattarak Mahaswamiji, who settled in the historical area of Shravanabelagola and increased the fame of Jainism in the region,” said Siddhalinga Sri of the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur on Friday.
He was speaking on the occasion of the unveiling of the swami’s samadhi, which has been consecrated at a hill in the area.
“The Charukirtis were highly exalted beings with very noble qualities. They were known for spending a lot of time in acquiring knowledge. In the Indian tradition, we have given the first place to the Guru, and accordingly, Charukirti Bhattarak stands high on that pedestal,” he said.
After the unveiling of the Nishidhi Mantapa of the Karmayogi Digambara Jain Mahasamsthan Math, which is buried in Shravanabelagola in Channarayapatna taluk of the district, Siddhalinga Sri said that his math and the Bhattaraka Swami shared an inseparable relationship, with a culture of humanism being the binding glue.
“The service he rendered for the uplift of society is unique. Especially, his contribution to the uplift of the Jain society cannot be forgotten. Living according to the principle of non-violence is like offering flowers to God. Wherever violence is happening, it should be prevented and that is non-violence. If one lives in a way that no one is subjected to violence, that is the best life,” he reiterated.
District in-charge Minister KN Rajanna said,” “This is a historic event. The Gurus who worked for the welfare of the people may not be with us today, but their contribution serves as an example for the next generation. I have met the Gurus many times. Let us work for the welfare of the people of this region under their guidance. The government will respond to the request of the younger Gurus and will provide all necessary cooperation,” he affirmed.
