


Hassan: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, has released the ‘Taxonomy of Institutional Structures’ report sought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to curb pollution in the steel sector and give importance to the production of environmentally friendly green steel.
Releasing the ‘Taxonomy of Institutional Structures’ report at a programme organized by the Steel Ministry at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday, Kumaraswamy said: “India has taken all the initiatives to protect the environment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a lot of emphasis to this issue. In this context, the taxonomy report has been released. This is an important step towards increasing the sustainability of the steel industry, one of the most important industries in the country.”
“I would like to say that the release of the taxonomy report is a historic step because, it works comprehensively to make steel production completely pollution-free. It will also promote responsibility in supporting the environment,” he said.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian steel sector has further expanded its growth trajectory and has ushered in a sustainable global transformation. The Minister said that India was playing a crucial role at the global level in this respect.
According to the agenda of the National Green Steel Mission, hydrogen-based steel production and bringing carbon emissions to zero, promoting green technologies for sustainable development, increasing and promoting steel recycling, and research and development for sustainable steel production will be emphasized.
The taxonomy report will fulfil the commitments of the Paris Agreement. It is expected to serve as a benchmark for adopting best practices globally. The Union Minister thanked many, including steel producers, policymakers and environmental experts, for their contributions to the development of this framework.
