AICTE holds three-day workshop on ‘Universal Human Values’

Hassan: “Universal Human Values” is a curriculum that is presented as a systematic set of universal, rational and verifiable propositions about reality that draw on the value or role of human beings at all levels, in harmony with the inherent harmony of man, family, society, the whole of nature and existence. This is essentially the scope of ethical human behaviour. It further helps in finding solutions to today’s problems. Our efforts are currently towards developing effective and universally acceptable content and methodology for introducing human values in mainstream education, which is a long-standing need,” Dr. Yashwant Patil, Resource Person for a workshop on Universal Human Values has said.

Speaking at the inauguration of a workshop on “Universal Human Values” organised by AICTE at Navkis Engineering College in Hassan on Friday, he said the theme was in the form of propositions for self-discovery. “The theme is universal, rational, verifiable, all-encompassing and humane values, leading to harmony. This approach involves the discovery of inherent harmony and co-existence in existence, through proper understanding and self-discovery, and the role of man in all aspects of life.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shashikant Kurodi said that the issues in professional ethics are analyzed in the context of proper understanding by focusing on the development of moral capacity in individuals, as opposed to the method of enforcing professional ethics through incentives and punishments.

“The goal is not individual transformation of human consciousness, but transformation of human society at the social level,” he added.

Principal of the college, M Venu Gopal Rao, said that in real-life situations, one should be able to discriminate between the “valuable” and the “superficial”.

“This enables the student to discover and understand the inherent value of human beings in every aspect of life, family, society, or nature, and strengthens the commitment and courage to live accordingly. Such programmes were helpful in communicating this noble ideal,” he said.

Observer of the workshop, Bhagyashree, and coordinator of the event, Siddika Nazia and all professors of the college, teachers of other schools and colleges of the district participated.
