Hassan: Member of Parliament, Shreyas Patel, has come out strongly against a tirade posed at him by JDS MLC Suraj Revanna.
Calling the MLC’s words “childish”, Patel said his personality and behaviour were at best “immature”.
Speaking to reporters in the city, he joked that Ministers speak two or three times in the day, MLAs five or six times, orators and experienced people, like geniuses, but everyone knows what they are in reality.
“Suraj has been a council member only once. I grew up politically as a Zilla Panchayat member and then became an MP. He suddenly became a people’s representative in the name of the family and rose spontaneously,” he replied.
Asked whether he had gone to a single gram panchayat in the seven assembly constituencies of the district after winning, Shreyas said that this statement had hurt him personally.
“Politically, Suraj is indeed my opponent. But I am not a slouch in any respect. I am working sincerely,” he added.
Shreyas also commented on aspersions being cast using the names of political elders. “We are all from political families. Elders in this profession are always respected. Let us not bring them into the war,” he said.
Speaking about the increase in transport bus fares, Shreyas said that fuel prices have increased, and the Seventh Pay Commission is being implemented.
“Transport department employees are protesting seeking fulfillment of various demands. We have indeed given free bus facilities to women. The price hike survey, however, is normal. The cost of living is also increasing. It is not only us who have increased the milk and bus fares, but all governments across India have done so. I am confident that the people of the state will understand our situation,” the MP added.
