Hassan: “Patel Shivaram was a close friend without any blemish in his political life,” former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has said, recalling the days he spent with the JD(S) leader during his political sojourn.
He was speaking during the funeral of Patel Shivaram, ex-MLC and senior JD(S) leader, in Hassan on Thursday.
“Patel Shivaram was the Zilla Panchayat President in 1984 for four years. He provided an honest and clean administration. No matter how difficult the going was, he would tell the truth to the people and his colleagues. Shivaram would never give people false hopes and was totally straightforward,” the former PM said.
He is also credited with building the DCC Bank in the district.
“On a particular occasion, Shivaram had lost the local elections for the first time. We then nominated him to the Gram Panchayat so that losers would not feel abandoned. He also worked faithfully as MLC for six years,” the former PM said.
