Hassan: A woman was seriously injured in a road accident and suffered serious brain injury, but is now immortal in the eyes of many.
Her family has become a role model by choosing to donate her organs to the needy.
H.S. Ramya (28), a resident of Honnashettihalli in Channarayapatna taluk, was riding a bike with her husband Manjegowda in Hirisave Hobli of Kavalubare village on January 9 when another bike coming from behind hit her and caused her to suffer a serious head injury.
She was immediately admitted to the Adichunchanagiri Hospital in B.G. Nagar and given treatment. Neurologist Dr. Guruprasad’s team, who examined the injured, confirmed that her brain was paralyzed.
After this, Ramya’s family decided to donate her organs to Adichunchanagiri Hospital.
The head of the hospital, Dr. K.M. Shivakumar, harvested the organs with the help of skilled experts.
Her kidney was successfully transplanted to a patient suffering from kidney failure with the cooperation of Dr. Narendra, Dr. Anil and Dr. Nandish V, kidney specialists from Adichunchanagiri Hospital.
Ramya’s eyes were also successfully transplanted in the same hospital.
Her heart and coronary artery were sent to Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore, while another kidney was sent to JSS Hospital, Mysore.
Her liver was sent to B.G.S. Apollo Hospital, Bangalore through zero traffic corridor.
Ramya’s family, which decided to donate her organs after her death, has now given life to five patients, and is now being celebrated as an exemplar of selflessness.
