
Alur: Town Panchayat Chief Officer Basavaraj was caught by Lokayukta while receiving money in person at his office on Thursday.
He had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from Hassan businessman Yunus in return for creation of an “e-account” for land lease agreement for 1.17 guntas to run a sawmill on Bikkodu Road in Alur town.
The chief officer, who had received the money in two installments, was caught red-handed by Lokayukta officials while he was receiving the remaining Rs. 70,000 at his office.
The officer has been caught for corruption within just four months of joining this post.
Based on a complaint by Yunus, a team of Lokayukta inspectors comprising Balu and Shilpa, under the guidance of Hassan District Lokayukta SP Nandini, raided the office and arrested Basavaraj.
