Nikhil Kumaraswamy visits Hassan, political circles abuzz with ‘resurrection’ theories

Hassan: For decades, Hassan has been known as a stronghold of the JDS, and the role of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, and former Minister H.D. Revanna has been significant in its political story.

In particular, H.D. Revanna is known to have taken major steps towards developing the distrct. As a result, the district has made its own contribution to educational and other dimensions as well.

However, of late it is being noticed that Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of H.D. Kumaraswamy, is slowly leaning towards his family, evincing more interest in its political story.

Nikhil, who recently visited Arakalgud town, participated in the birthday celebrations of former minister and current MLA A. Manju and hinted at entering politics in the district during the programme.

Nikhil, who visited Hassan on Wednesday, organized a meeting of party district presidents, current and former MLAs of Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and candidates who lost the last assembly elections at a private resort on the outskirts of the city.

The participation of Nikhil, who is currently a state youth JDS leader, in this meeting is a significant development. It is worth noting whether this “entry” is a prelude to the revival of the JDS in the district, which is currently witnessing a Congress surge.

The warm response of JDS leaders in the district to Nikhil has sparked renewed interest in the party, especially in the aftermath of the turmoil the party witnessed after the recent Revanna family fiasco.

In particular, the way young JDS leaders interacted with Nikhil seemed to suggest that the family is in no mood to give up on Hassan despite the recent setbacks, and the only current pillar of strength – Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and his family – are determined to wrest a fief that seems to be drifting away.

Therefore, in the coming days, JDS cadres are hoping that Nikhil will bring in new vigour, enthusiasm and vision to the party organization, which is desperate for a redemption of sorts, given the feeling that the Revanna family is fast losing ground in Hassan.
