

Hassan: Veteran writer Banu Mushtaq’s translated collection of short stories titled Heart Lamp (original work: Haseena and Other Stories) is on the list ready for consideration for the International Booker Prize.
Deepa Bhasti has translated these stories into English. The judges have analyzed that these stories have tied the family and community tumults with regional charm and satire.
Thirteen works are on the Booker Prize shortlist and this is the first time a work translated from Kannada has been selected for the award, which carries a prize of 50 thousand pounds (more than ₹55 lakh).
Six of the 13 works on this list will be selected for the final round. One of them will be selected for the prize on April 8.
The award will be presented on May 7.
Speaking to Hassan Today, writer Banu expressed her happiness that Haseena and Other Stories has been selected as a contender for the Booker Prize.
