Hassan: Member of Parliament representing the district, Shreyas M. Patel, on Tuesday addressed a meeting on developments in the district and spoke to Hassan Today Editor-in-Chief Prakash on a host of issues.
In the conversation, excerpts of which are on video, he first congratulated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on presenting what he termed was a ‘beautiful budget’, which took care of the interests of all segments of society and all districts in the state, impartially.
He said that efforts have been made to allocate funds for infrastructure projects in the district such as the flyover, Hassan airport, roads, and elephant-inflicted deaths among others.
He expressed happiness that Hassan district’s Belur and Halebid have been recognized as UNESCO sites, and promised that his government would make every effort possible to put in place infrastructure to attract tourists from all over the country and globe.
These two shrines are world-famous for their brilliant sculptures during the reign of the Hoysalas.
The MP also said that funds would be allocated by the state government for development of railway infrastructure in the district, in addition to grants from the Central government, as is usually the case.
He also said that compensation to victims of deaths inflicted by elephants would soon be increased and that efforts to enhance the elephant rehabilitation facility in Bhadra Tiger Reserve (BTR) would be expedited to contain the spillover of pachyderms into Hassan district.
The MP also mentioned that his government would focus on setting up more drip-irrigation projects in the district in a bid to boost agriculture productivity.
Channarayapatna, he said, which was currently a taluk in the district, would soon be upgraded in status and funds would be invested in its infrastructural development.
Apart from these, he made a special mention of Hassan airport and promised that Rs 50 crore, currently required to complete the project, would be allocated come what may.
He said he would make every effort to ensure that the project saw the light of day during his term as MP and during his government’s term in office.
He said he would work with utmost zeal to ensure that one day, the people of Hassan would be able to fly out of their own city to any place outside, instead of travelling afar to catch flights.
