Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has instructed the officials to immediately prepare a proposal for providing reservation to journalists in allotment of plots and houses and submit it to the government at the earliest.
This instruction was given in the wake of a request submitted by Karnataka Working Journalists Association (KUWJ) state president Shivananda Tagadoor stating that all local bodies including town panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations, including BDA, should provide 5 percent reservation to journalists in allotment of plots and houses.
The DCM, who held consultations with officials in the Vidhana Soudha, on the matter also discussed the likely legal obstacles the proposal could encounter and how best journalists can be helped.
“It may be difficult to provide a 5 percent discount. However, steps will be taken to provide a discount of at least 1 to 2 percent in housing allotment. Let me see what can be done,” Shivakumar said.
Additional Chief Secretary S.R. Umashankar, BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath, Special Officer to the DCM Rajendra Prasad and others were present.
