Hassan: In the session held on Friday, the Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC) was upgraded to the status of a Municipal Corporation and 37 villages were included under its ambit.

Out of these, Arekalluhosalli village was unscientifically included in the Municipal Corporation.

Shreyas Patel, MP from Hassan, has requested that this village be dropped, and those of Nidudi, Chittanahalli and Lakshmisagar, which are close to Hassan city, be included in the corporation.

The Municipal Administration Minister, Rahim Khan, has favourably considered the request, said the MP, while addressing the session on Friday.

Prior to Hassan being upgraded to a municipal corporation, the 37 villages had to function without a Gram Panchayat and the Municipal Council members and were handicapped due to lack of funds.

This predicament was discussed in the House, leading to the demand that more funds be provided for the development of the said villages.

Minister Rahim Khan, who was also present, responded positively to the demand and assured that a grant of more than Rs. 110 crore would be released by the end of March for the purpose.

He said the funds received would be used in a good way and the 37 villages would be developed properly.

MP inspects APMC market

In a separate event, the MP visited the APMC market in Hassan city on Friday and inspected its business. Receiving complaints from traders, he instructed them to submit their grievances to the officials and ordered the officials to resolve them quickly.

Speaking to reporters, Shreyas Patel said that the traders had briefed him about several problems in the APMC market, including the lack of space and he, in turn, has instructed the officials to hold a meeting soon with them and resolve the issues.

“Farmers from rural areas across the district come to sell their produce in the APMC market. Therefore, cleanliness should be given high priority. Instructions have been given to follow safety measures along with security,” the MP said.
