Hassan: International Mathematics Day was celebrated at Navkis College of Engineering in the city on Friday.
Dr. C. R. Pradeep, Professor, Department of Mathematics, Channabasaveshwara Engineering College, who was chief guest for this programme, spoke on the topic ‘Puzzles and Algorithms’ and said that all science subjects showed how different they were from others.
“All subjects related to mathematics should not be seen as an “exercise in plain studies” but rather, a joy to be savoured. Children should participate in such workshops, and try to understand these subjects and solve problems they encounter in everyday life,” he added.
Dean of the college, Dr. Sripada Markande, said that the contribution of Indian mathematicians to the world was immense, as a result of which our country had become recognized in the field of mathematics.
“India is now a model for other countries in the arena of mathematics. Students should follow the path of the achievers and actively discover new things about mathematics as time flows,” he believed.
Head of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Raghavendra R, addressing the programme, explained about today’s special ‘Pi’ and said that mathematics and science helped us understand the world around us and also inspire us.
Principal Dr. M Venugopal Rao, Head of Student Affairs Dr. Babita Jain and Dr. Mohan Kumar of the Physics Department were present.
Heads of all departments, faculty and students participated, while student Kriti compered the programme.
Student Amrutha and group opened the event with a prayer.
Madeeha Sheikh delivered the welcome address and Iqra presented the vote of thanks.
