Hassan: “Since women have occupied a high position in the country from the family level itself, no one should be disrespectful towards girls,” MLA Swaroop Prakash has said.
Speaking after inaugurating the children’s gram sabha organized by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department at the Tejur Gram Panchayat premises of the taluk on Monday, he said that it was commendable that women have left their mark not only on earth, but also in space.
“In recent times, the mentality of throwing girls on the streets the moment they are born is still alive. This needs to change. The achievements of great leaders like Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams are immense and all women should follow their path. Even in Hassan district, women are in high positions in government and they are performing their duties very well. This is a testament to the courage of women,” he said.
He said if women at home were happy, the entire family life was happy. “A large number of girl children are studying in the school in Tejur village. It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain and develop this spirit. I promise to provide the necessary rooms and basic facilities to the school,” he said.
On the occasion, many useful items were distributed to the beneficiaries under the Gram Panchayat grant and prizes were distributed to the winners who participated in sports and cultural programmes.
Executive Officer Girish, PDO Shivananda, Women and Child Welfare officer Roopa, former GP member Shivanna, village leaders Swami, Manjanna, Santosh, Raghu, Appanna, Pradeep, Madhu, Arun, and others were present.
