Hassan: It is the Constitutional  duty of everyone to protect the environment and contribute to wildlife conservation and development of lakes, retired executive engineer  CB Venkate Gowda has observed.  He presided over the closing ceremony of the 6th Annual Mahasabha held at the Green Siri of Channapatna Housing Board in the city recently.

To educate the people regarding their responsibility, Green Bhumi Foundation was set up in 2015-16, he recalled. Thanks to this initiative, with the cooperation of all, it has been possible to develop 85 Kalyanis, 14 lakes and thousands of small forests. C.B. Gowda, who was elected as the 6th President of the Foundation, noted that temperatures were rising due to climate change threatening the very existence of Earth and mankind. The way to mitigate this potential catastrophe is to conserve natural resources, focus on development criteria within environmental norms and accelerate forest development.

To do this, the Green Bhumi Foundation should get ready to conduct a multi-pronged movement in the coming days. He said that in 2025-26, there should be a movement to build more than 10 small forests in the district as well as save and develop lakes in rural areas.
