Hassan: On behalf of officials and employees of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department and the Union of Gram Panchayat Members, an indefinite sit-in was held in the Zilla Panchayat premises of the city demanding fulfillment of various conditions.
Village accountants, officers and employees of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department went on strike on Tuesday with hundreds of other staff from all taluks of the district joining hands in the strike.
On the occasion, the protestors said that 68 to 70 percent of the people of the state were being provided services by Gram Panchayats but nothing was being done to make their lives better.
Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Members, Panchayat Development Officers, Secretaries, Second Class Accounts Assistants, and all staff members (panchayats demanded that their everyday problems be solved by the government.
A protester on the occasion warned that their struggle would not stop until their demands were met, and condemned the attitude of the government and the department, for sitting on requests to make their work lives easier.
