Hassan:  With the aim of creating awareness in the public domain about pets, their needs and challenges faced by owners, the Hassan Kennel Club Association organized its fifth dog show on Monday.

A total of 130 dogs of 23 different breeds including Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Shiatzu, Great Danes and Rottweilers participated in the event.

The shows reflects the growing trend of raising pet dogs in Karnataka and the rest of the country, spawning a related pet food industry and generating jobs for caregivers.

At the show, owners got valuable information about how to breed pets, train and groom them, including on how to bathe and get the pets vaccinated, as per prescribed schedules.

There were two speciality shows featuring German Shepherds and Dobermans.

Hassan Kennel Club president Manjunath and secretary Raghavendra briefed the audience on the occasion.

The competitions were in three categories – pups, juniors and adults with first, second and third prizes in each category.

The prize winners would feature in best dog shows for which a cash prize of  Rs 1 lakh was instituted.

Free anti-rabies and deworming camps were also part of the show.
