


Hassan: ME Riise Foundation of the Malnad Engineering College (MCE) in Hassan on Friday organized a six-week training programme on self-employment for students at the college’s Alumni Hall.
The workshop is being conducted by the Skill Development Centre of the institution.
President of the college, R.T. Dyavegowda, who presided over the programme, advised the students to take advantage of the six-week training camp, which intends to provide training to students in ways to become self-employed during their academic life and to build a culture of self-reliance in general.
The workshop will also impart lessons in legal knowledge.
Students were informed about possibilities of assistance from the Central and State governments in such matters.
He also said that the trained students will be given certificates of participation after the course is completed.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, the Secretary of the Institute, Chauduvalli Jagadhish, said that the organization intended to soon invite many companies to campus so that students could enter the corporate stream.
He said workshops such as these were an important step in enhancing the market-readiness of the educated youth.
Principal of the college, Dr. Krishnaiah, Medium Small and Micro Enterprises (MSME) Deputy Director Shashikumar, and senior faculty Dr. Geetha Kiran, spoke about the benefits of skill development training.
Treasurer of MCE, D. Parshwanath, and senior officials G.R. Srinivas, Boovanahalli Srinivas, Shantigram Shankar, Nagaraj Jayen and B.R. Rajashekar were present.
The programme was organized by faculty members Dr. Geetha Kiran, Dr. Mohan Lakshmi and Dr. Nandhita.
