Hassan: “Nowadays, there are more opportunities for women in the field of sports, especially cricket, and young women athletes should make good use of these,” District Collector C Sathyabhama has said.
Speaking while inaugurating the first-ever state-level five-day T-20 women’s leather ball cricket tournament organized by Times Sports Academy at the Times International School in Vijayanagara Layout of the city on Friday, she said winning prizes was not important in sports, but participation with enthusiasm was indeed.
She said that when girls participate in sports and develop a spirit of sportsmanship, it will help them live a smoother life and equip them with the courage to handle the difficulties thrown by life.
Presiding over the programme, local MLA H.P. Swarup Prakash praised the work of Times School Secretary B.K. Gangadhar, who is providing a good education and is simultaneously encouraging sports along with building a spacious stadium for sports at a time when many schools are giving more priority to lectures, academics and rankings.
Gangadhar appealed to the students of various colleges in the city, especially girls, to cooperate in making the tournament a grand success.
Senior cricket coaches Natesh and Ravi Shankar, athletes Suresh, Vinay and Arjun, head teachers of Times School, staff and children were present at the programme.
